WORKOUT

I know that this isn’t Sunday Confessions time, but let’s be real… I haven’t been the best workout partner for anyone this week.  So, to jump back on the wagon, I focused on cardio today.  Below was the focus of my workout today, centered on interval, cardio training on the treadmill.  I ended up shortening the cooldown by adding in a few extra intervals on the back end, as I planned some strength-training afterwards.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a traditional, big box gym, but I have to say that I was impressed by the local YMCA.  They’ve added in fun rock climbing walls, new pools, and great personal training facilities that I’ll have to take advantage of next time I’m in town!

FESTIVE CELEBRATIONS

As I’m sure that it has been for many, this was a week of amazing catch up time with my dearest friends and family.  I’ve found that being around the children in my family always seems to make the holiday that much more special.  This year, we had 9 children, alongside the many adults in my family – and they must have been great this year!

While opening presents was a blast, dinner was my favorite part of the evening.  My nieces and cousin’s daughters are all blonde, and they started the “blonde” table.  First of all, they’re hair-est – not condoned.  But the good news is, I was invited to join the table!  Two four year olds, one 9 year old, one 27 year old, and my 32 year old cousin made the cut.  I consider that a win!

Yesterday was the mother/daughter date-night that I had talked about in my last post, and our dinner/movie date was just as romantic as expected.

We went to see the film “Wild,” starring Reese Witherspoon.  The movie was a fantastic story of redemption, which was exactly what we were hoping to enjoy!  There are two bones I have to pick with the film:

1) This is a true story – an absolutely stunning film that makes you reflect on what’s truly important and love the life you lead.  (No complaints there!)  However, the film was incredibly similar to one I saw a couple of years ago – I believe starring the Douglas’ – where the father loses his son and hikes the Jerusalem Trail to find himself and the message in the journey.  (I did a bit of searching for the name of this film, but can’t find it – brownie points for you if you get it!)  Both great films though, I’m basically just saying that it’s been done.

2) “Wild” was directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, the same director who did “Dallas Buyers Club.”  And I have the same issue with both films… AMAZING true stories followed closely by amazing acting.  But neither follow the story to completion.  As humans, we love stories that follow a full circle and don’t end with loose ends.  My mom and I were both left saying, “what happens next?  did she learn the lessons enough to live a good life?  what happened to some of the characters that just got lost?”  The loose ends were a bit too much for my style.

With both of the above complaints, I still have to say that I left feeling inspired, and I was sure to hug my mom a little tighter before I left home to head back to Denver.  I’d recommend it as a rental, but still one that I’d recommend seeing down the line.

FINAL THOUGHT

As most of our Christmas card have been sent out (feel free to judge me), I wanted to pass along our love to all of you.

Thank you for reading and for your comments and “likes.”  While I would be posting without readers, having you keeps me accountable and focused on being and growing to become stronger and more “complete” each day.

Happy holidays to you and your’s!  And now onto resolution season…
