#TBT: 2006 Kentucky Derby

Derby

Ahhh, the sweet, sweet memories of when tanning was cool and the awkward turtle meant something.  That’s what I think of when I look at this portrait following the 2006 Kentucky Derby with some of my favorite crew.  That and, “I remember when we could all borrow each other’s clothes and accessories whenever we wanted to,” but that’s another topic for another day.

In 2006, we decided to buy tickets to the infield.  It was ROWDY, but incredibly memorable.  When you think of the Kentucky Derby, most people think of fancy dresses and hats galore.  That’s me nowadays, but as a freshman in college, the infield was perfect.  It’s a crazy party-fest in the field, completely unlike anything you’ll see on television.  Picture the stereotypical Indy 500, but with horses racing and people a bit classier (this is Kentucky South, after all.)

This event continues to be one of my favorite memories from college.  We finished up finals and last minute decided to pack everything we owned into one car and cruise South.  We stayed at a friend’s home and did everything by the seat of our pants.  And it worked out beautifully!  Sometimes the best events come when you go with the flow. 🙂
