Wedding Thursday: Wedding Dress Shopping (Part 1)

Yes, I’m a day late, but that’s what happens when you decide to randomly head to a Rockies game with your fiancé for a last minute night on the town.  You say “yes” and leave the blogging for tomorrow. 🙂

But on to the topic that you guys really care about… I BOUGHT MY WEDDING DRESS!!  My mother and future mother-in-law were in town this past weekend and we only had to have a two hour appointment at one store to find the one.  I won’t lie, I am still having a slight “freak out” moment because it was absolutely NOT what I planned to wear on my wedding day, but it just felt right when I put it on.

9 2 15_2 Hang time with the beautiful mothers (ignore my baggy jeans) – & yes, of course we brought our own champagne!

Since I tried on what I think of as several dresses (my “stylist” kindly told be otherwise, but I’m not sure that I believe her on this one), I’m going to split this one into two posts.  And while Ray will likely be skimming this post (he’s heard it all already), he’s asked that I keep with tradition and not show him nor describe what I’m going to wear.  So these are the dresses that I didn’t pick…

9 2 15_1 The only store we had to see.  If you’re in Denver, definitely check out Anna Be.  They’re relatively small, but have a BEAUTIFUL collection and fantastic stylists that don’t pressure you at all.  Granted, our stylist was named Jessica, so she was pretty cool right off the bat.

I was literally shaking trying on my first dress!  I had never tried on a wedding dress, so I wanted to try on a variety.  But this was a FANTASTIC dress to start with (see below.)

9 2 15_4

I had scouted out Anna Be after spotting this STUNNING Monique Lhuiller gown in a recent issue of The Knot.  And it felt as amazing as it looks!  The details are absolutely perfect, and I envy the beautiful women that will be wearing this down the aisle.  It felt like way too much dress for me and I didn’t feel like myself.  But seriously… it’s more than stunning though, right?!

9 2 15_5

I adored the lace detailing on this dress, but the structure felt a little “blah” to me.  In looking in the mirror, I also felt that the lace felt a bit overbearing.  If the lace went a wee bit lower, I could have rocked it.

9 2 15_6

I loved this dress on, but really didn’t love it in pictures, I think primarily due to the structure (or lack there of) in the skirt.  If the neckline was a little bit higher on this one, then I may have been more comfortable, too.  (I sound like goldilocks or whatever talking about necklines, but if this is the most expensive piece of clothing I ever purchase, I want PERFECTION.)

9 2 15_7

The mothers and I were all surprised when I, a slightly OCD, huge fan of symmetry gal, LOVED the asymmetrical lines in bold skirts.  I wish I had gotten a better picture of the back of this dress, because it was a BEAUTIFUL lace extending the length of the dress.  The primary reasons that I didn’t pick this dress were because I noticed that the lining on the lace portion had a tendency to flip a bit on the ends, because the hem is a very structured almost plastic structure, and because (surprise) I didn’t feel incredibly supported up front.

As a quick scheduling note, three of my favorite dresses will be a part of Wedding Wednesday next week, and I’m going to delay my Weekly Favorites to tomorrow alongside my Weekly Ensembles.  And with that, we’ll all be up to date!

Note: None of this content is sponsored.  All opinions are my own… or from the mothers, who are always right (and may be reading this…)

Do/Did you know exactly what you want(ed) to wear on your wedding day, or did you want to try on a variety of dresses?  Am I the only one that’s totally obsessed with having the perfect neckline?

Create a great life!

You could always just direct us toward a LINK if we were, say, interested in what you did choose… 😉 All the options are gorgeous, but I can see your rationalization for each one. Can you imagine buying (investing in?) something that expensive, and not being COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE with it??? eek!

ALL BEAUTIFUL! I am going to be a complete nightmare when I go wedding dress shopping. Probably because I have NO idea what I’d want and I’m also the most indecisive person…. ever 🙂

Haha, I thought it was, but if I didn’t feel comfortable in it, I pulled the old MTV “Next” fairy quickly. It definitely made the process a LOT easier. 🙂

Those were all such beautiful dresses! I actually tried on dresses 4 times before finally buying one. It can be really hard to find something that’s right. I think total I probably tried on 30 dresses over the course of those shopping trips. I definitely was not a bridezilla, I just wanted to be sure I got the right one! The wedding dress is not only super expensive, but you’ll have to remember it for years to come in all the beautiful wedding pictures! Congratulations!

Thanks! Don’t stress too much about the dress – it’s just one piece of the whole event. Can’t wait to hear about your planning process. 🙂
