Taking Stock – April 2016

This month has been a whirlwind, to say the very least.  From going full time with this blog adventure (sorry, I’ll stop talking about it soon), to my Chicago-based bridal shower happening this past weekend (more details to come), to an entire site redesign (hopefully) coming at the end of this week, needless to say, I don’t see life slowing down anytime soon.  And I LOVE IT!  I wrote last week about taking risks, and my life feels incredibly full of risk at the moment.  But confidence in myself, forging my own path (with the help of the Big Man), and consistent movement is making me feel alive at the moment.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Because it’s been such a crazy busy month, I thought that it might be beneficial to take a step back and “take stock.”  This is the point in the month where I evaluate what I’m thinking, feeling, doing, and a whole list of other goodness to talk about where I am at this point in my life.  I’ve seen this on other blogs and thought I’d give it a go. Let me know if you’re a fan in the comments section below and I’ll decide whether to make this a reoccurring series or not based on your thoughts.

Here’s April in a couple of thoughts:

Making – I’m currently in the middle of pulling together invitations for our upcoming wedding.  We have a lot to do to get the whole wedding pulled together, but we’re done with most of the big pieces.  Throughout this process, I’ve felt like I’m pulling together a full “scene” to set the tone for the event we have in our minds.  I guess that’s somewhat “making” an event come together, too, right?

Drinking – Lots and lots of champagne.  With two birthday celebrations and my bridal shower this weekend, I’ve been on a huge celebratory champagne kick.  In response, this week will be filled with a ton of tea to bring my system back to normal.

Reading – Two books, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo (I’ll be reading this one for a while… lots to get to) and “Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married” by Gary Chapman.  I’ve been on a non-fiction kick for quite some time now and both of these books have allowed me to reflect and I’m learning a ton that I’ll be able to apply to everyday life.

Watching – My friend Lauren that I went to Croatia with is currently on Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Challenge” on CMT right now, so that’s what’s on our television at the moment.  I’ve never seen this show prior, but it’s essentially a strength and agility challenge competition for women.  There’s fitness instructors, CrossFit gym owners (Lauren), Olympic boxers, and professional MMA fighters, just to name a few.  While I don’t love the idea of having women compete against one another, I do love that we have an entire show based entirely on the strength of women.

Enjoying – The snowy sunshine of Colorado!  We just got back from Chicago where the weather was absolutely fantastic!  It’s rare that the weather in Chicago is “better” than Denver’s ongoing sun.  But one thing that I love about Colorado is that we can take advantage of all different types of weather.  So bring on the skiing!

Listening – My relaxation playlist.  I love a lazy Sunday on the couch with the stud next to me, drinking “stress relief” tea and catching up after a busy weekend.  It’s the perfect way to celebrate an evening.

Working On – Redesigning the website.  Be sure to follow via email!  I’ll be migrating my full domain in the next couple of weeks and want to make sure that you don’t miss a beat!

Loving – The love our family and friends showed us this weekend at my bridal shower.  There are few times in our life that we’ll be surrounded by so many of those close to us across the years.  It’s so difficult to be able to talk and connect with everyone through such a short few hours, but the presence of everyone is felt and makes every occasion just that much more fun and special.

Smelling – Our Fresh Lavender Breeze candle that was probably $4 from the grocery store.  While I know it’s better to have soy candles, and I love the sound of candles with wooden wicks, we use candles so quickly that I struggle to pay much more for something that isn’t going to last us more than two weeks.

Wearing – My “loved” tee from Blue Chair Blessing.  Some of you will recognize this shirt from Instagram, and I’ve been wearing it non-stop ever since.  It’s cozy and the message is fantastic.  Win, win!

Feeling – Honestly, a little bit nervous!  I’ve worked hard to make this a strong community that you guys enjoy coming to, and I’m completely going to be changing up a lot of pieces of the site in the near future.  It’s all things that I’m really excited about, and all elements that I think will significantly improve SST, but change can be scary.  And truthfully, I don’t want to lose you guys!  Like I said, please be sure to follow via email or proactively check back to www.semisweettooth.com to make sure that you’re staying involved with all of the fun!
