How to Stop Feeling Like a Fraud

When we start to bring our true gifts to this world – our unique gifts that we are meant to share (we all have them) – , almost all of us get the same feeling.  Even though our gifts are incredibly unique to us, we start to compare ourselves to others.  We change ourselves to try to fit this “mold” that we think people want.

But when we’re copying others and changing ourselves, we start to feel stuck because we’re not allowing our true self to shine.

This feeling is typically called “imposter syndrome” and it’s something that we all feel at one point or another.  Almost like we not worthy of success.

There are two directions I go when I start to feel like a fraud or unworthy and both have been incredibly helpful to the people I’ve worked with on this subject:

1) Find a small mountain to scale everyday.

What is something that is relatively small, but that you can accomplish today?  Maybe it’s putting yourself out there and sending an email to that business you want to sell into.  Or maybe it’s charging a bit more for one of your services.

Find a small mountain that you want to cross and make that scary move, until it doesn’t feel as scary anymore.

2) Build your tribe of supporters

Many of us are in unique fields, and our work may not be understood by all.  But what’s important is that they SUPPORT us.  They do not laugh off our accomplishments or the steps we’re taking towards success.  Because every step is an important one to be taking.

Whom should you be spending your time with that will authentically support and encourage you along your journey,  Find those people to help your true heart to shine!

How do you overcome those moments when you feel like you’re caving to imposter syndrome?  Please share in the comments section below!

As I mentioned above, this recipe literally took me 5 minutes flat and turned out even better than I had anticipated.  Essentially, I wanted to make a healthier version of a traditional melt, and I now highly prefer this version.  With the tomato and avocado mixture being just right, topped with gooey cheese, but still light enough to have more than one, this is a treat that I can’t wait to make again in the very near future!

Healthier Tomato Avocado Melt

Prep Time: 2 minutes, Broil Time: 3 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 2 adults

Ingredients

  • 1 medium Roma Tomato (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 Avocado (peeled & thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices of Rye Bread
  • 1/2 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut Oil
  • Crushed Red Pepper and Leaf Oregano to taste

Directions

  1. Spread a thin layer of coconut oil on one side of each slice of bread.  The three tablespoons should be all that you need.  Sprinkle lightly with the Crush Red Pepper and Leaf Oregano.  Pre-heat to oven to Broil on high.
  2. Layer the bread with the oiled side up.  Start with the tomato, followed by the avocado, and sprinkle on top with the cheese.  The tomato and avocado slices do not need to be immediately next to each other, so spread them out a bit.
  3. Boil the slices for about 3 minutes, or until the bread is slightly toasted and the cheese is bubbly.  Enjoy!  I prefer to eat these almost as soon as they come out of the oven.
