Fall Favorite: Cinnamon Water

Cinnamon Water is a delicious alternative to plain water as we lead into the fall.  It’s unusually refreshing with a subtle touch of sweetness and spice.  Taking only two ingredients, there are a variety of ways to make it, all of which end up delicious.  Scroll to the bottom to get immediately to the recipe or keep reading for a catch up on life this week.

FALL IS HERE!  Ok, so in Denver that’s relative, as we’ll have massive temperature swings, but there was a high of 70 degrees Fahrenheit one day this week.  And that’s close enough for me!

This is, by far, my favorite season each year, even though it always feels too short.  It’s so stereotypically Midwest in my mind, that maybe it just reminds me of growing up outside of Chicago.  Puffy vests, fallen leaves crunching below my feet, dressing up for Halloween, and a light crisp in the air as we head out to a football game with a cup of hot cider in hand.  This is paradise to me.

What’s even better is that my mom came in town on Wednesday and we’ve been having a ton of fun catching up.  I’ve been working on some big projects that I can’t wait to share with you guys (though we have a while), so it’s been really nice to have her to help hold down the fort.

With my mom’s past in interior design, Ray and I asked her to fly in to help us decorate our new mountain home, because we need all the help we can get.  A little bit of professional love is all we need and she’s just the person we need to make our little slice of heaven a home.

But now, back to Fall with this delicious Cinnamon Water recipe.

Perfect Fall Beverage

Cinnamon Water

Total Time: 15 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons of ground cinnamon or 1 2’” stick of cinnamon

Directions

As I mentioned, there are two options.  Choose which one works best for you and your home.

Option 1

Drop a stick on cinnamon in a pitcher of water and chill overnight.  The water will become infused with the taste of cinnamon, but the color of the water will not change.  Drink regularly as you would plain water, or see below option two if you think the taste of cinnamon is too strong.

Option 2

Combine your cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon with your water in a pot and take to a simmer.  Allow to sit at a simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring sporadically.  Allow to cool either to room temperature or within the refrigerator.  This will create a more concentrated mixture.

Note that this will tint the water the orange-ish color of cinnamon and is my preferred method with traditional ground cinnamon.  Then see below.

All

When you’re ready to drink, combine your normal cup of plain water and just a touch of the concentrate that you just created.  Add more to taste as preferred.

I also like to add a touch of mint or basil to the top to add a little extra flavoring.

Scheduling Note

In observance of Labor Day here in America, I will not be posting next Monday.  For those of you nearby, enjoy the long weekend.

I’ll see you back here next Wednesday with an AMAZING breakfast recipe that you need to see to believe!
