Emmy Fashion: The Hits

The Emmys have come and gone.  Andy Samberg had mixed reviews (I’d give him an A-), new milestones were met, new trends found their way off of the runway, and old trends continued.  Below, check out some of my favorite styles from Television’s Biggest Night and the trends being brought to the forefront across the red carpet.

I fell in LOVE with this dress the second I saw Jaimie Alexander step out of her car.  I think she looks jaw-dropping, with a stand out dress that’s not too over-the-top.  I’ve read several positive and negative reviews of Jaimie’s look, but, either way, I thought that she look sleek and sophisticated with just a little edge.  Cheers to you, Jaimie!  This might just convince me to watch “Blind Spot.”

Did the ladies from “Modern Family” call each other on this one?  When Sarah Hyland and Julie Bowen walked onto the red carpet, I thought that they both looked incredibly classic, but both had a little flare with their unique necklines – Sarah with a dropped back and Julie with an additional, accented sleeve.  They may not have won best comedy this year, but they rocked it in my book!

Yellow / Marigold

While yellow was all over the red carpet, I honestly didn’t love how most of the celebs decided to piece it together.  Don’t get me wrong, Heidi Kulm looks good in literally everything, but a different color should have been in the conversation this year.  But Mindy Kaling, let’s talk… I think she looked stunning.  On trend with a classic shape, and the marigold perfectly accentuated her skin tone.  I’m super bummed that “The Mindy Project” is no longer on network television, but I’ll invest in Hulu if it’s to support these looks coming back in future award shows!

Metallic Hardware

From Kerry Washington (above), to Cat Deeley, to Sofia Vergara, it felt like you couldn’t get away from metallic hardware this past Sunday.  Though, to be fair, I didn’t see a single look with this trend that I didn’t love.  Kerry Washington was my absolute favorite in this Marc Jacobs piece.  The mesh fabric was edgy (& kept her from sweating in the 100+ degree heat), but the cut of the dress kept it classy and tasteful.  Simply beautiful!

Other trends

There were several other consistencies on the red carpet that I didn’t fall in love with, but that we’ll likely see making an appearance more often in the near future.  Ball gowns, chain shoulder straps (well done by Taraji), almost neon hot pink, tuxedo-wear, and post-Labor Day white were the main options I noticed.  All are beautiful in their own right, but aren’t my favorites of the moment.  Though we’ll see how my tune change once the trends go more mainstream. 🙂
