Taking Stock – April 2017

Every quarter, I like to take a quick second to reflect on life at this very moment.  Living in the present is incredibly important to help us pay attention to the blessings in our everyday lives.  This is my way to make sure I’m actively, intentionally living in the moment.

Q1 of 2017 was wild, to put it lightly.  I developed completely new solutions to work with both businesses and individuals within my LLC, Ray & I learned a lot about working together as a team within our new marriage, and I intentionally did everything possible to remain close to our home in Denver throughout the early part of the year in anticipation for the busy summer to come.

While we didn’t have much planned in our home, or so we thought just by looking at our calendar, the commitment to remain less busy and welcome the stillness opened new doors and allowed for some incredibly dramatic transformation in several facets of our lives.  This transformation is far from complete, but I am so proud of Ray and I for welcoming new, sometimes scary change into our lives.

But now onto how I’m feeling at this very moment…

Taking Stock – April 2017

Making

Room for stillness.  I’m intentionally doing everything I can to be less busy.  I’m prioritizing time to breathe, saying no to trips I would have said yes to in the past, saying no to potential clients and jobs that don’t fit my values system, turning off the TV to walk around the block to allow thinking room, and tuning into a good book to let my mind escape from the day-to-day.

This journey has already opened so many doors, the right doors, and I can’t even imagine what’s to come when I allow the experiences to start to flow.

Drinking

This is going to be almost sacrilegious to say, especially in the beer mecca that is Denver, but I’ve been enjoying some classic Coors Light.  It’s not the healthiest choice, but something about sunny day with the cool breeze flowing through the mountains makes a light beer just feel right.

Watching

Ray and I recently watched “Arrival” and I cannot stop thinking about the film.  I won’t ruin any surprises in case you haven’t seen it yet, but I will tell you that it makes you think.  How would you respond in the lead character’s situation?  Looking back on life, how do the different decisions you make impact the trajectory of your life?

If you’re looking for a movie that makes you think and reflect, then I highly recommend checking out “Arrival.”

Reading

Lately I’ve been enjoying Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography.  It’s hilarious, heartfelt, and a light, casual read.  I finished almost the whole book on a couple of recent flights and I keep looking for ways to extend it.  This book is a whole lotta’ fun.

Enjoying

Dance classes!  I randomly signed up for four sessions of a new (to me) dance class in downtown Denver and I’m already hooked!  It’s so much fun to reconnect to my love of dance and get in a great workout with a friendly, fun community of women.  I have my second class tonight – let’s just say that my first class in 3 years definitely showed my recent lack of practice.  Eek!

Working On

Getting out of my home office more often.  It sounds a bit silly to “complain” about, but I find working from home to be incredibly isolating.  Being a natural extrovert, working without the benefit of coworkers drains my energy and leaves me feeling tired and unmotivated.

I’m in the middle of trying several different strategies – coworking spaces, working with friends, coffee shops, libraries, etc – and I don’t know what’s going to stick, but I do know that something needs to change to help this little business and I thrive for the long run.

Loving

Partnering with local Denver businesses for classes and events!  After recently doing a speaking event and hosting an event at SHINE boutique, I have two other events planned for other area businesses in the very near future.

If you’re in the Denver area and love new workout classes (hint), then be sure to sign up for my newsletter by adding in your details at the bottom of the page.  We’d love to have you join the next event – the more, the merrier!

Smelling

Not to sugar coat it, but I’m working outside right now next to Ray’s hockey bag.  So I’ll give you one guess what I’m smelling right now.

But hey, at least the light breeze provides just a light scent of hockey, right?

Wearing

I’m oddly obsessed with violet eyelinerright now.  Just a light line along my lower lash line or along the outer half of my upper lash line makes my eyes pop without giving an over-the-top look.  A simple way to add a little pizzazz to a more casual style.

Feeling

A steady combination of nervous and excited.  I can feel big things coming in Q2 and across the summer, but that could really be anything.  I’m just crossing my fingers that I continue welcoming those open doors and walk towards the opportunities that feel right.

Here goes nothin’!
