Sunday Confession: I’m a Proud Church Person

Don’t worry, I’m not getting too evangelical here or anything, but it’s definitely worth the share since it’s a big part of who I am.  Now to explain:

I didn’t come from a very religious family.  We were more of the Christmas/Easter type with some random visits throughout the year when the timing worked out.  Knowing nothing different, I continued about my days having a grand, old time.  Skating, dancing, hanging out with friends and family – & life was amazing.  Especially when I didn’t think about it, life was amazing.

But then I started thinking about it when I got towards the end of college.  That time is tough for so many people, debating real life questions regarding next steps, where to plant roots, best way to start a career, to be or not to be close to family.  The list goes on and on…

Then I stepped foot into church and decided to really listen and decide what it meant to me.  I’ve loved what I’ve heard and I’ve stayed. 🙂

Since I came in not knowing much about religion, I’ve done (high level) research on a lot of religions and spiritualities to find what speaks to me.  What speaks to me is the spirit of love.  God loving us, us loving him, and us loving one another.  That’s what I know and that’s the basis of everything I believe.  The places where I’ve regularly felt the most “at home” believing this has been non-denominational churches, where all religions are welcome and they focus on applying the message to daily life.

There are three churches that I’d like to thank through this journey:

April 5 (1)   Willow Creek in Chicago, where I was baptized as an adult

April 5 (2)

Crossroads in Cincinnati, where I spent a lot of time – moving to a new city by yourself without friends or family can be difficult

April 5 (3)

Park Community Church in Chicago, where my faith was able to blossom and I found my first true Bible study group

While I’m yet to find a church home here in Denver, I’m already looking forward to the loving community that will support and encourage everyone across every step of our lives.
