Kona Turkey Burger & The Barre Code Class Details!

Kona Bistro was one of the best restaurants back at Miami University where both Ray and I attended school.  And, over time, the Kona Turkey Burger became one of the most sought after meals near campus.

While the Kona Turkey Burger recipe that we got from the restaurant (yes, we called them) was created for mass quantities, Ray and I worked to shrink that recipe down to four burgers.  More flavorful than any turkey burger we’ve ever had, but still equally nutritious.

Making the Time

I’ve been hearing the same thing from a lot of people lately, sometimes including myself.  “Jessica, I don’t have the time to (insert relevant activity here).”  It could be working on a big project, or working out, or spending quality time off the phone with family.  But we often use TIME  as our excuse for why we can’t do something.

And for good reason.  As humans, time is, arguably, our most valuable resource!

With that in mind, here are my three tricks for MAKING THE TIME for whatever activity is relevant to you.  But keep in mind that time shrinks the more successful you become.  Put time management habits in place NOW so that you’ll be on top of your game when you become even more successful.

My three simple tricks for making the time:

1) Allocate the time in your calendar.  WRITE IT DOWN.  That time is dedicated to you and whatever activity you deem most important.  Don’t move it for a meeting or for a lunch date.  That time will be your’s to use wisely.

2) Get rid of the fear of letting people down.  I think a lot of us avoid saying “no” when we need to because we’re scared of disappointing people.  (Your’s truly included.)  But the truth is, when we’re purely making time for others and not ourselves, we grow to be resentful.  Rid yourself of that feeling and be okay saying “no.”  Try not to say “no” to everything, because we don’t want you to reclusive, but when you need to take the time for yourself… do it.

3) While relaxation is important, track how much time you spend relaxing.  All of us are different in terms of how much sleep and relaxation we need.  But, too often, we use Netflix or social media as an excuse.  If you skip watching “The New Girl” tonight, I promise the crew will wait for tomorrow, either via DVR or online.  If you need to work on something, including yourself, GET TO WORK.

Remember that you need to come first in your life.  MAKE THE TIME to make your goals happen!

Kona Turkey Burger

As I mentioned in the intro, the Kona Turkey Burger is, by far, the most delicious turkey burger I’ve ever had in my life.  But when Ray called to get the recipe (we’re obsessed), we got the recipe that they actually make for a large scale.

So I boiled this recipe down to make four burgers and we couldn’t put them down.  Ultra-delicious, but with all of the nutrition and goodness left in.  Gotta’ love it!

Kona Turkey Burger

Prep time: 10 minutes, Grill time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yields: 4 turkey burger patties

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup garlic bread crumbs
  • 3 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 4 green onions (minced)
  • 3 tablespoons of each of the following: oregano, Lawry’s, sugar, salt, pepper, cumin (less if preferred)

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a medium-sized bowl.  Create four turkey burger patties from the mixture.
  2. Put on the grill for 10 minutes, flipping at the 5 minute mark.
  3. Enjoy on a bun or bunless!  A traditional Kona Turkey Burger would be topped with chipotle dried cherry aioli, but we went with traditional ketchup, mustard, and some red onion, and roasted onions and carrots on the side.
