It’s time for a ROAD TRIP!: Off to the brewery

WORKOUT

Warm up with 1000 meter row

50-40-30-20-10: Double Unders (or, if you’re like me, x3 single unders) & Sit ups (every other oblique crunches)

Total workout for me was 31 minutes.  Exactly.

BREAKFAST

This morning, we were in a bit of a hurry, to we tried new Jamba Juice pre-packaged smoothies.  They were super easy to make and were very tasty!  Literally, you toss it in the blender, add in 1 cup apple juice, blend for 1 minute, and you’re set for two servings.  WHAT!?  Madness.

That being said, while the nutritional content wasn’t too bad, they tasted VERY sugary.  Which is hard for a self-proclaimed semi-sweet tooth to say!  I’d recommend for a little later in the day when you need a little jolt to get ya’ going.

Priced $3.99 + apple juice at my local grocery store.

Ray (the stud you’ll see pictured below, more to come in a later post) and I decided to take a road trip to Cincinnati for the long weekend.  While this isn’t a super long road trip, we decided to make it into a much longer trek by stopping at a couple of breweries on the way.

Now, I’m not surprising anyone when I say road trips can be a shock to the immune system.  You’re surrounded by every DQ known to mankind, every stop at a gas station has a Mickey D’s calling your name, and, if you’re in a similar boat to me, you have your stud chuggin’ a Venti Caramel Frapp right next to you.  (How rude!)  Not to mention, the sitting all day, which we all know wreaks havoc on the blood flow.

So, how is a simple city girl to survive these terrible conditions?  (Fine, that was a slight exaggeration.)

1) PACK SNACKS: When Ray was chugging that Venti Frapp next to me, I was all set due to my handy-dandy snack kit!  I typically pack some oranges, granola bars, or whatever healthy snack foods I have lying around the house.  It saves cash-flow when you don’t have to buy those DQ Blizzards to satisfy your cravings and it should curb your appetite enough to get to your next, healthy meal.

2) TAKE BREAKS: I’ve been with so many people that just want to “get there.”  That’s fine, we can do that.  But I’ll be the one claiming a bathroom break every two-ish hours just to get a few steps in.  I’m sure that many of you have heard similar advice about flights and I HIGHLY agree.  Not only does it get your blood flowing throughout your body the way it’s supposed to, but it also is mentally rejuvenating. I recommend it for a good time.

3) CHUG WATER: Heck, it’s good for you…and it’s a good excuse to take those breaks that I was talking about!

While those are my top three tips, I’m sure that there are more out there.  What do you guys do to stay healthy while you’re on the road?
