Becoming a Full Time Blogger

Two weeks ago, I made a scary decision.  A massive risk that energizes and frightens me all at the same time.  Because of YOU and your heartfelt readership, I felt comfortable with taking a big risk and betting on myself.  Two weeks ago, I decided to put in my two-weeks notice at my full time job.

While I started blogging five years ago, Semi-Sweet Tooth joined my life two and a half years ago on a quiet night on our couch in Chicago.  I wasn’t sure what I wanted out of the blog world, but I knew that I was missing this creative outlet in the short time between my two blogs.  But over those two years, I’ve found myself getting more and more entrenched in the blog world and becoming more passionate about wanting to make SST a site that YOU enjoy and find to be beneficial.

However, as my passion for the blog world has continued to grow, I’ve found myself feeling spread too thin.  My full time job has always been my priority, but alongside work, I’ve felt like I’ve only been able to be half in on everything else.  Understandably so with a full plate of things to do – and I’m certain I’m not the only one that’s felt this way!  Wedding planning, blogging, and my relationships with others have taken a back seat and I’ve found myself turning down freelance opportunities that I otherwise would have taken if I thought I had time.

Thank You

Before I go into my future plans, I first want to say THANK YOU.  While I’m energized, scared, and excited all at the same time, i would never be at this point without you.  I’m humbled by your comments – and you silent readers make me proud, too!  I love the fact that so many of you keep coming back for more SST fun every day.  Each time I see a new subscriber, I’m incredibly proud that others are finding this a positive, safe space to visit each day.  Without you, none of this would be possible.  I truthfully never thought anyone would read SST, with it essentially being a diary of my day-to-day life.  But when you guys first started trickling in, I was almost instantly ready to make blogging my “thing.”  I now love building this supportive group of individuals around the globe and can’t wait to pop in every day.  I’m so excited to give my whole heart and time to you and you should know that I’m going to do everything I can to make this a space that continues to bring positivity to our lives.

I also want to give a special shout out to my friends and family, some fellow bloggers and some that only know the blog world from my personal experience, that have encouraged me to take this step.  I don’t get upset when people say blogging isn’t their thing or they decide not to follow, I totally get that it can be annoying seeing me post everyday.  But for those of you that do decide to support me as a friend, sister, cousin, niece, daughter, acquaintance, thank you for your support as I try to build something from nothing.  As a blog friend mentioned, “For those of you that see that I am pursuing something that I enjoy and am working to create a place where I don’t compromise my beliefs – thank you.”  When you double tap my photo on Instagram or put your email in the right hand side of this page – I promise, I see you.  Thank you.  A super special shout out to those bloggers that paved the way before me and were able to help me with this decision, thank you for being a friend to a relative newbie in this world – especially Brittany, Desire’, & Vanessa.  I’ve always believed that a rising tide lifts all ships.  Thank you for living that out.

My Plan for the Future

When people ask how I’m feeling going into this, I keep saying excited and nervous all at the same time.  I am a planner by heart (thus Ray and I started talking about this decision months ago) and, while I’ve definitely seen success within the blog and freelance world (again, thank you), a lot of blogging and freelance writing brings an uncertain future.  But I’m pumped up and ready to take on that challenge!

I plan to continue waking up early each morning and writing at least one post a day – we may go back to two, but I’ll be staying at one for the time being.  I’ll go to the gym once a day, then settle in at my work space to actively write or proactively pursue opportunities.  Just like most jobs, blogging means meetings, appointments, and deadlines.  Though I’ll technically be reporting to myself, you guys will now be the ones telling me what is and is not working.  I promise to work hard and be ambitious to ultimately make Semi-Sweet Tooth the best brand and the best place possible to help us all continue creating a great life.  I’ve found where I’m supposed to be.
