Anyone who has known me for more than a few days knows that I wouldn’t call myself a whiz in the kitchen.  In fact, I’m pretty much the farthest person from said whiz.  While I pull together all breakfasts, lunches, and snacks in our household, I use a very limited set of ingredients.  Ray makes all of our dinners and is the crafty cook.  But that doesn’t mean that I don’t have a desire to be more creative!  Which is exactly the reason why I perked up when I found an older article in Bon Appetite that highlights tips from pros on how to make better baked goods.

Click on the link above to read the full article, but their 11 tips are as follows:

1) Use room temperature ingredients

2) Invest in quality bakeware

3) Butter and flour your pans generously

4) Weigh your ingredients

5) Toss the old stuff (baking ingredients get bad quickly)

6) Take your time to fully complete each step (and to read the descriptors)

7) Use Salt

8) Rotate halfway through (your oven is likely warmer on one side than the other)

9) Don’t mess with the suggested temperature or baking time (unless you have a very high or low oven)

10) Let it cool completely

11) Use substitutions at your own risk
